Where Is La Manga del Mar Menor?

La Manga del Mar Menor, also known as La Manga, is situated on the Costa Calida coast in Murcia, Spain. La Manga in Spanish means “sleeve” which is quite fitting as the city is a narrow strip of land of approximately 22 kilometres and has a width of 300 meters. The city acts as a separation between the Mediterranean Sea and the lagoon of Mar Menor. La Manga is a touristic place widely known for its resorts and beaches. A popular place tourists usually go to is the infamous La Manga Club which boasts an 18-hole golf court. Even though the city is home to about 16,000 inhabitants, there are about 200,000 people that visit it each summer.

What is the Weather Like in La Manga?

La Manga del Mar Menor and the region of Murcia have a Mediterranean climate. In fact, the temperature rarely drops below 10 degrees (Celsius) in the winter. La Manga has an average temperature of 27 degrees in the summer. If you cannot stand cold weather, La Manga is perfect because you will not have to worry about it. Additionally, rainfall is scarce in La Manga. It only rains a couple of times per year causing the landscape to be arid.

What to Do in La Manga del Mar Menor?

As La Manga del Mar Menor is a coastal city, most activities you can do take place outdoors and revolve around the beach. With such Mediterranean climate, inhabitants prefer to spend the majority of their time enjoying the beach, doing sports, or going out for food and drinks. That being said, here are 5 activities we recommend you do when you visit La Manga del Mar Menor:

1.La Manga Beaches

La Manga del Mar Menor is well known for its beautiful beaches and creeks. It is quite impossible to stay in La Manga and not go to one of the beaches and creeks. Since the city is gaining a lot of popularity, you will find a lot of tourists and locals having a peaceful day on the beach. The main beaches and creeks we recommend are the following:

  • Cala del Pino
  • Cala del Turco
  • Playa de la Isla
  • Playa Nuevo Puerto Bello

These beaches have a good reputation in La Manga. People usually love them because they are safe and offer all types of services such as bars and restaurants.

Safe for children because it is shallow. Deep for those who want to walk after a few meters. Lots of corner shadows with picnic tables” – said a TripAdvisor user. Most of these beaches have a 4-star rating.

2.La Manga Water Sports

As chilling on the beach is one of the main activities in La Manga, you will find a lot of different businesses offering water sports. These water sports are family friendly as the Mar Menor is not very deep so the chances of accidents happening are very low. La Manga Water Sports is a club that rents out jet skis, boards and floaties for people to go around and have fun on the water. According to another Trip Advisor user, the service is great.

“We hired 3 x jet skis like 6 of us. Super friendly service from the lovely man at the beach. Very knowledgeable and clear about distances and health and safety. Very good value for money for 30€ for 45 minutes. Definitely enough time to get through the waves. Our group really enjoyed this Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for a good trip.

3.Scuba Murcia

Scuba Murcia is La Manga’s scuba diving club. They currently have a 5-star accreditation and are the best in town.

You can go diving for 35-40€ either from the shore or from a boat into the middle of the Mediterranean sea. They also offer classes and provide you with certifications when you pass them. You may want to look out for the “special offers” section of their website to be alerted when they have a good deal. The great thing is that they have instructors that speak both Spanish and English.

4.La Manga Bikes

La Manga Bikes on the other hand is a bit less flexible because everything is in Spanish. They allow you to visit classic places and historic buildings from Cartagena. They rent out bikes to people and also organize bike tours so that you can cycle and visit at the same time. Most tours last about 2 and a half hours. That represents approximately 10km.

5.Charter Santa Cruz

Charter Santa Cruz is a local company in La Manga del Mar Menor that rents out boats and offers fishing services. You have the possibility to either rent a boat to relax in the Mediterranean sea or rent a boat and go fishing. This company is very welcoming, and their service is one of the best in Murcia. They also speak multiple languages such as French, English, Russian and more.
